News & Announcements


New News:

  • Today is Neon Day. Teachers please send your best dressed student to the quad at the end of the bulletin. Tomorrow is Rainbow Day.
  • 7th Grade Students – Are you interested in joining Leadership next year and helping to plan events and activities? If so, pick up a Leadership Application in the student store this week and next week. Applications are due by February 26th.
  • Attention all 8th grade dancers. Auditions for Sheldon High School’s dance company, Universal Rhythm, are February 24th. In order to participate in the audition process you will need to attend a mandatory meeting on February 18th after school from 3:00-4:00pm in the dance room here at Smedberg.  For further information or questions please ask Ms. Drolet.
  • Announcing the perfect attendance winner for the month of January 2016! Congratulations goes to (drum roll please….) The Name of winner is Mark Kravchuk! He attended all of his classes during the month of January. Also thank you to our generous prize sponsor, Leatherby’s Family Creamery!   Mark will receive a coupon for a free Leatherby’s Rachel’s Sundae.  Congratulations to Mark!  Please come up and see Mrs. Anderson in the front office to collect your prize. How can you get perfect attendance? The easiest way is to Be Active – Be Ready – and Be Present! Come on! School is Cool!
  • Don’t forget to head out to the quad today at lunch to buy Valentine Grams from the Crochet Club for 50 cents or Valentine Poppers from the Creative Entrepreneurs Club for $2. Stop by both booths and help spread the love for Valentine’s Day.
  • Shakespeare is coming!  If you are a Drama Club member or a Theatre student who wants to attend the San Francisco Shakespeare Company performance of Hamlet, I hope you already have your permission form signed—because TODAY is the deadline.  Don’t forget to turn your signed form in to Mrs. Caston if you want to attend the show. 
  • Come one, come all to the February Festival this Friday on February 12th – That’s Tomorrow! We’re selling tickets for $9 without ASB sticker and $7 with ASB sticker. This festival is “Carnival Themed” with fun games and prizes to win! Make sure to get a ticket to attend the grand carnival because tomorrow will be $10 for all! Tickets will also be sold today after school before the price goes up tomorrow.



  • On Saturday, the Wolverines competed at the Falcon Wrestling Tournament at Whitney HS. Smedberg brought 14 competitors and brought back 12 medals. Congrats to Lucas Sanchez on taking first place and also qualifying for the Tournament of Champions the week before. Individual results are:
    • Varsity: Jose Hernandez - 4th, Ethan Moua - 4th, Julian Tillman - 3rd, Miranda DiBenedetto - 1st, Lucas Sanchez - 1st, and Cesar Mendoza - 1st

This Friday (2/12) is the February Festival (dance). The theme is Carnival and there will great food, games and activities. The price includes the inflatable obstacle course and unlimited games with awesome prizes. There will be an open gym and free snacks available also. You can purchase nachos, pizza, churros, soda, roatbeer floats, popcorn and cotton candy! There will be a magician and a balloon twister and real carnival games! Tickets are $7 with an ASB sticker and $9 without on Thursday. Tickets WILL be sold after school on Thursday until 3:20pm. On Friday, all tickets are $10. Tickets will be sold after school on Friday ONLY to students that are accompanied by a parent/guardian.


Please see the attachment regarding course offerings throughout the school year. The focus of these workshops is to provide parents and staff with mental health supports for their student’s success within the school and home setting. All workshops are free and take place at the EGUSD District Office.


Next Workshop is February 17, 2016 on Thinking Ahead: High School and Beyond at Pleasant Grove High School.
