News & Announcements

4/29/16

New News:

  • Today is the All School Run – during each period today PE classes will be out running the mile!
  • The library will be closed today due to make-up testing.
  • Hey Smedberg—if you were thinking about helping out our community by donating to the Sacramento Food Bank, today is the last day.  Please bring in household items such as canned foods, diapers, wipes, toilet paper, cleansers, paper towels, etc. and put them in the donation bin in the front office, or drop them by room F8. 
  • The Country Club Lanes field trip will be on Wednesday, May 11th and it is for 7th and 8th grade students that earned POP for at least two terms this year. The trip is a lot of fun and the price includes 4 hours of bowling, laser tag, video games and prize games. It also includes pizza and soda. Information is available on School Loop and in the office and student store. Signups continue this week. We are currently taking signups for Bus 2. If there is enough interest, we will open Bus 3. Tuesday is the last day that we will take signups, so get your money and permission slips turned in soon to guarantee your spot on the trip.
  • Yearbook information: The yearbook distribution party will be on May 19th after school.  If you have not purchased a yearbook but you would still like to- there is a waiting list in the snack shack. Please only sign up if you are going to purchase a book. The first 30 people signed up will be able to purchase their yearbook at the yearbook distribution party on May 19th for 55$ cash only. There are a limited number of yearbooks available so PLEASE get on the waiting list in the snack shack if you want one! 
  • Come one; come all to see the BEST OF SMEDBERG THEATRE! On Thursday, May 5th, you can see some of Smedberg’s finest actors performing live in Sheldon’s Studio Theatre at 6:00 PM.  Tickets are on sale now in the Student Store for $3. Get them in advance, because seats for this awesome show are limited. Reserve your spot today!
  • Attention 8th graders – information and forms for National Anthem and Promotion speeches are in the student store. The National Anthem deadline is today with tryouts next Tuesday. Speeches are due next Monday and the tryout will be next Wednesday. Pick up the forms for more information.
  • Any 8th student wanting to participate in a sport at Sheldon next year, Sheldon will be hosting free athletic physicals on Saturday May 7th from 9-12 in the Aux Gym at Sheldon.

Starting Monday, May 2nd, 2016, T.R. Smedberg Middle School will be using a new automated calling system. This new system will be sending you attendance notifications in various ways.  When your child is absent from school and the absence has not been cleared, you will be called on your home and cell phones, Emailed an alert, as well as Texted an Alert (if you have opted in).  Notifications will be made at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm to ensure that you are contacted. If you receive one of these notifications, please contact your school during regular school hours to ensure they have correct information regarding your child's absence.

 

Text\SMS Message:  The opt-in process for Text Messaging will take place around 10:00am, Monday, April 25th, 2016.  You will receive a text asking you if you would like to opt-in to alerts from Elk Grove Unified School District.  Please reply with a “Y” to opt-in, or do not respond to opt-out.  Opting In will also allow you to receive Text Messaging for other District Notifications, in addition to Attendance Notifications. If you opt-in, and you receive an Attendance Notification via text, please contact your school during regular school hours to ensure they have correct information regarding your child’s absence.

Email Messages:  In addition to the regular phone calls, you will also receive email notifications letting you know that your child was absent from school. If you receive an Email, please contact your school during regular school hours to ensure they have the correct information regarding your child’s absence.

 

This is what the Email message will look like:

Hello, this is a message from the attendance office at T.R. Smedberg Middle School calling to inform you that your student <<First Name>> was marked absent today during the following periods <<Periods Missed>>.  Please contact the T.R. Smedberg Middle School attendance office at 916-XXX-XXXX to clear the absence, or send a signed note upon your student’s return to school.  If you have already contacted the school, you may disregard this message.  Thank you

 

Phone Calls: These will be made in the primary language of the guardian, but will also be relayed in English as well.  If the parent’s primary language is Hmong, Vietnamese, or Spanish, the message will first plan in that language, with the English version to follow.

 

This is what the Phone message will say:
